The 1/2" bar can hold up to 4 characters
The 3/4" bar can hold 5 to 7 characters
The 1" bar can hold 8 to 10 characters
The 1 1/4" bar can hold 11 to 13 characters
This is only an approximation as some letters/numbers take up more space than others. You may want some free space on the bar as well. For a minimalist look, one or two letters on a 3/4" or 1" bar looks perfect. The letters can be left justified, right justified or centered.
